This page explains what information Lingopundit collects about you on lingopundit.com and in the Lingopundit Classroom, why, who helps us handle it, how long we keep it, and what you can ask us to do with it.

Who is responsible

lingopundit.com and the Lingopundit Classroom at classroom.lingopundit.com are run by Lingopundit, owned by Chakshu Bansal, VIP Road, Zirakpur, Punjab 140608, India (“we”, “us”). We decide how your information is used. Under India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 we are the “Data Fiduciary”; under the EU and UK General Data Protection Regulation we are the “controller”.

Grievance Officer and privacy contact: Chakshu Bansal, Lingopundit, VIP Road, Zirakpur, Punjab 140608, India. Email contact@lingopundit.com. We confirm every privacy request or complaint within 48 hours and resolve it within 30 days at the latest.

On this website (lingopundit.com)

You can read lingopundit.com without an account, and we do not ask for your name or contact details here. What the website itself handles:

  • Analytics: Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity measure which pages are visited, which buttons are clicked (for example “Start your free lessons” or WhatsApp) and where visitors get stuck. They use cookies and record your connection details (IP address, browser, device, approximate location). See Cookies.
  • The B2 Writing Checker: the text and the task image you send are passed to Anthropic (Claude) to produce your feedback. We do not save them, and we do not ask who you are.
  • Links to WhatsApp, the Classroom and social media: when you follow them, those services handle your information under their own terms. Signing up for the free lessons happens in the Classroom, and everything below applies from then on.

What we collect in the Classroom, why, and on what basis

WhatWhy we use itBasis
Account details: name, email address, password (stored only in scrambled form by our login provider), username if you choose oneTo create and run your account and sign you inContract; your consent at sign-up
Phone and WhatsApp number, their countries, and your time zoneTo contact you about your account, enrolment, classes and doubts; to keep one account per person; quiet hours for messagesContract; legitimate interest
Device information: a code stored in your browser and a fingerprint of stable facts about your device (platform, graphics chip, number of processor cores, memory, touch screen)To keep your account to one device and stop account sharingContract; legitimate interest in protecting our courses
Connection details: IP address, the city of your connection, browser and operating systemSecurity, preventing misuse, and the city in the “recent sign-ups” noteLegitimate interest
Learning activity: lessons and exercises opened and completed, video classes opened and how far you watch, loginsTo give you your progress, enforce the access rules you agreed to (for example video plays), and help you in supportContract
Your work: texts you send for writing feedback, doubts, replies, voice notes, lesson ratings and comments, questions you type into the Help panel, and recordings of live classes you take part inTo give you feedback and answers, run the doubt community and improve our lessonsContract; legitimate interest
Support requests: what you write, any screenshot you attach, and technical details of the page (address, browser, screen size, recent error messages)To solve your problemContract; legitimate interest

Your privacy choices and when you made themTo respect them and to prove what you agreed toLegal obligation

Your card, UPI or bank details go straight to Cashfree Payments; we never see or store them.

Doubts, voice notes and comments

  • Other students see your doubts, replies, voice notes and lesson comments with your username only, never your name, email or phone number. Your voice is heard by those who play a voice note.
  • Before anything is published, it is checked automatically: voice notes are turned into text by an AI service (Cloudflare Workers AI), and the text is checked by an AI model (Anthropic Claude) for contact details, full names, abuse and off-topic content. Our team reads every doubt and reply and listens to voice notes, to answer them as the Lingopundit Expert and to keep the community safe.
  • If a post is refused, we keep its text (not the recording) to handle misuse, and tell you at once why. You can delete your own posts at any time; the recording is deleted with the post.
  • Please do not put information about your health, religion, finances or other private matters, or anyone else’s personal details, in a post.

Live Practice classes

Live Practice (and B2) classes run on Google Meet. Your trainer and the other students in your batch see your name as shown in Google Meet and, if you switch it on, your camera, and hear you when your microphone is on. We add you to the class calendar invitation with your email address; other students cannot see the guest list.

Live classes are recorded. We use the recordings for teaching quality, for reviewing what happened in a class, and short excerpts may be used in our marketing (for example on our website or social media). If you would rather not appear in marketing, write to contact@lingopundit.com and we will leave you out of excerpts used from then on.

Automated checks and AI

We use AI to give feedback on your German writing (in the Classroom and in the B2 Writing Checker on this website), to check community posts before publishing (see above), to answer questions you type into the Help panel from our own help texts, and to help us understand support requests. No decision with legal or similarly important effects on you is made by AI alone: refunds, access, device resets and account closures are always decided by a person. If you think an automatic check got it wrong, write to us and a person will look at it.

Who helps us

These services handle your information on our behalf, only to provide their service to us, under contracts that require them to protect it:

We do not sell your information, and we do not share it with anyone else unless the law requires it (for example a court order). If the business is ever transferred, your information would go with it under this policy.

Information sent abroad

Several of these services store or process information outside India and outside your own country, including in the USA. India’s law allows this except to countries the government restricts. For students in the European Union, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, these transfers are covered by the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses (or the UK and Swiss equivalents) in our providers’ data processing terms, or by the EU–US Data Privacy Framework where the provider is certified.

Cookies and similar storage

  • Strictly necessary (always active): on lingopundit.com, remembering your cookie choice; in the Classroom also your sign-in, the session and device cookies that protect your account, and settings such as a collapsed sidebar. The sites cannot work without them.
  • Analytics: Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity on lingopundit.com, and on the Classroom’s pages (Clarity only on its public pages, never on lesson, notes or exercise pages), to see which pages are used and where visitors get stuck. Visitors in Europe are asked first and these load only if they accept.

We do not use advertising cookies. You can change your choice at any time: (in the Classroom, under Cookie settings on its own pages). You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings.

The “recent sign-ups” note

On larger screens the Classroom shows short notes about recent sign-ups and enrolments, for example “Kiara from Mumbai started a free trial · 5 minutes ago”. The note shows only your first name (never your surname), the city of your connection (or your country), what you signed up for and when. You can switch it off any time on your profile (Privacy), and you no longer appear.

Emails and WhatsApp messages

  • About your account and purchases (sign-up, password, enrolment confirmation, class information, answers to your doubts, support): we send these because you need them to use what you signed up for.
  • Reminders (up to 3 WhatsApp reminders on the first day of a free trial, as announced when you sign up): switch them off any time on your profile (Privacy), or reply STOP.

How long we keep it

We keep your information while your account exists and as long as we need it for the purposes above. Free accounts that have not been used for a long time may be deleted; we tell you beforehand. Payment and order records are kept for 8 years, as tax and accounting law requires, and security logs for at least one year, as Indian law requires. When you ask us to delete your account, we delete or anonymise your information within 30 days, except what the law requires us to keep, which we keep only for that purpose.

Security and breaches

Access to your information is limited to the people and services that need it. Connections are encrypted, passwords are never stored in readable form, and every access to lesson content is checked on our server. If a breach ever affects your information, we will tell you and the authorities as the law requires, what happened and what you can do.

Students under 18

You must be 18 or older to create an account or buy a course yourself. A parent or legal guardian may create an account and buy a course for a child under 18; by doing so they agree to this policy for the child and are responsible for the child’s use of the Classroom. The optional choices (WhatsApp reminders, the “recent sign-ups” note) are then made by the parent or guardian. We do not knowingly use the information of a child under 18 without a parent’s or guardian’s agreement; if you believe a child is using the Classroom without it, write to us and we will close or correct the account.

Your rights

You can ask us, free of charge:

  • for a summary or copy of the information we hold about you, and who we shared it with;
  • to correct, complete or update it;
  • to delete it (your account), unless the law requires us to keep part of it;
  • to withdraw a consent you gave, as easily as you gave it: the optional choices on your profile switch off at once; withdrawing does not affect what was done before;
  • to nominate another person to use these rights for you if you die or become unable to;
  • in the EU, UK or Switzerland also: to receive your information in a portable format, to object to or restrict our use of it, and not to be subject to decisions made only by automated means.

Email contact@lingopundit.com from the address on your account (so we know it is you). If you are not happy with our answer, you can complain to the Data Protection Board of India or, in the EU, UK or Switzerland, to the data protection authority where you live.

Changes

If we change this policy, we update the date at the top. For important changes we will also let you know by email or in the Classroom.
